The Aprilia RSV 1000
Road Bike
Competition may come and go, but the Aprilia
RSV 1000 R remains the unquestioned top dog among supersport
motorcycles for its amazing handling on road and racetrack.
The Aprilia RSV 1000 R has shown its competitive edge in
world endurance racing, where it is the only production
twin able to compete on even terms with the best four cylinder
machines in the world, as demonstrated by the excellent
results achieved.
The Engine:
Featuring a 1000cc
V60 Magnesium engine with new 33mm exhaust valves and new.
larger diameter exhaust headers. In this form the V60 Magnesium
now puts out even more power, topping 143 HP at 10,000 rpm
without losing any of its legendary usability and proverbial
Aprilia reliability.
The new satin finish silencers have catalytic converters
installed nearer to the collector pipes. This solution has
reduced converter activation time by 50% while further reducing
the level of exhaust emissions. A choke valve inside the
duct, controlled by the engine ECU, regulates flow to provide
the engine with air at exactly the right volume and pressure.
The engine therefore packs incredible punch right through
its extended speed range, enabling the rev limiter to be
set at 11,000 rpm.
The
Frame: The new RSV 1000 R swingarm is made
from extruded Peraluman and Al Si7 castings. Its double
arch design provides a clear passage for the new twin silencer
exhaust system. Here too, cross-sections and wall
thicknesses have been optimised using finite element analysis.
The RSV 1000 R swingarm weighs only 4,860 grams, well under
the swingarm weight benchmark of 5 kg.
The steering head’s rake angle has increased from
24° 45’ to 25° to give a slightly longer trail.
Stability is better as a result, so that the new RSV 1000
R inspires even more confidence than before, without losing
out on its acclaimed agility.
The Suspension:
The new fork has 43 mm stanchions with titanium nitride
coating for a friction-free sliding action. Its advanced
design with longer sleeves and shorter fork bottoms reduces
load at two critical points, the slide bush and the stanchion
to fork bottom joint). Wheel travel is 120 mm. The Sachs
rear monoshock incorporates a separate piggy back nitrogen
cylinder and is also adjustable in preload, compression
and rebound.
The Brakes:
The Aprilia RSV is equipped with Triple Bridge, radial caliper
front brakes developed by Aprilia in conjunction with Brembo.
The 320 mm floating steel discs on the front wheel feature
narrower braking bands for reduced wheel weight and inertia
and therefore more agile handling.
The RSV 1000 R’s radial calipers are combined with
a radial master cylinder to form the most sophisticated
braking system fitted to any current production bike.
The front and rear braking circuits both use aeronautical
metal braid hoses to eliminate the pressure variations associated
with conventional rubber brake lines, guaranteeing maximum
braking precision.

The Aprilia Tuono
1000 R Road Bike
The latest Tuono 1000 R has the same amazing
character as the previous model, with improved technical
specifications and performance. The 2007 model is more advanced
than ever, thanks to the Evolution engine that has already
made its debut on the superb Factory version.
The fastest naked around is now more powerful than ever!
With performance beyond the reach of the competition, the
Tuono 1000 R is the best naked money can buy, with all the
performance of a racing superbike to thrill even the most
sophisticated racetrack riders.
The Engine:
The latest 1000 cc V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine is derived
from that of the 2006 RSV 1000 R Factory, with only a few
minor changes to improve torque and muscle at low revs.
Engine breathing has been improved by new, bigger exhaust
valves (enlarged from 31 to 33 mm in diameter) and new,
larger diameter exhaust header pipes. Thanks to these improvements,
the V60 Magnesium Evolution that drives the Tuono 1000 R
puts out more power than ever, 139 HP at 9,500 rpm, while
also boosting torque to an impressive 10.9 Kgm at 8,500
rpm, a figure that tells you all you need to know about
the muscle that Aprilia’s V twin can deliver even
at low revs.
The Frame:
Every aspect of the frame, fork and suspensions has been
fine tuned for perfect weight distribution. The frame is
a combination of aluminium-silicon alloy castings and Peraluman
450 pressed parts. This highly sophisticated structure is
not only more rigid than the previous version but lighter
too. The latest frame weighs under 10 kg (9650 grams) setting
an impressive new record for its class. The wheelbase is
shorter too, and at 1410 mm the Tuono 1000 R’s crisper
than even handling and more instinctive ride. The new double
banana swingarm provides a clear passage for the exhaust
system and weighs only 4860 grams, well under the 5 kg figure
considered by experts to be the reference weight for this
component.
The Suspension:
The fork is a Showa upside down unit, with 43 mm stanchions
for a perfect balance between precision on the racetrack
and comfort on the road and the fork is fully adjustable
in spring preload and in compression and rebound damping.
The Sachs monoshock at the rear is likewise adjustable in
spring preload and rebound damping.
The Brakes:
The new Tuono 1000 R is equipped with Brembo Gold radial
calipers featuring two separate sintered pads. The use of
four pads instead of two doubles the number of leading edges
in the pad-disc system, and delivers increased braking force
for identical effort at the brake lever. Because the pads
are smaller in size, wear is also more evenly distributed.
The two 320 mm floating steel discs feature a narrower braking
band to minimise inertia and weight and are fixed in place
by Aprilia’s exclusive six spoke flange. The rear
braking system is Brembo Gold too, with a 220 mm stainless
steel disc and a caliper with two 32mm pistons. The front
and rear brakes both use aeronautical metal braided hoses
to eliminate the sponginess inevitably associated with conventional
brake hoses and to ensure maximum braking precision.

The Aprilia Mana
850 Road Bike
The 850 Mana is the state of the art in
motorcycle technology. Only Aprilia, with its legendary
technical skills, would have dared take on a challenge of
this entity. The Aprilia 850 Mana is so advanced and so
unique that it simply cannot be compared with any other
motorcycle. The Mana takes all the stress from motorcycling
while injecting more satisfaction and more fun into riding
under all conditions, from commuting to sports touring on
the open road. All you need to do to enter a whole new world
is press the button on the handlebars.
The Engine:
The most interesting aspect of the Mana engine is without
a doubt its primary drive system, based on an electronically
controlled, sequential transmission that offers the rider
a choice of control modes.
Riders can choose from two options:
- Sequential mode: The
rider decides for himself when to change gear, either using
the conventional pedal or a switch on the handlebars. A
servo mechanism shifts the main pulley to change between
the seven gear ratios amazingly quickly. During deceleration,
if the rider omit to change gear manually, the control system
intervenes to change down automatically, preventing engine
speed from dropping below the set threshold and providing
another valuable aid to active safety.
- Fully automatic mode
(Autodrive): Sophisticated electronics assume control over
everything, and the CVT transmission keeps the engine running
at maximum torque speed for optimum pickup and acceleration.
The Sportgear transmission offers a choice of three mappings:
Touring: for minimum consumption and maximum
usability.
Sport: for top performance with blistering
acceleration
Rain: for use on wet or slippery roads
Semi-Autodrive mode allows the rider only to change down
independently. This is particularly useful for overtaking
at maximum torque revs or for boosting engine braking when
riding down a hill. You can switch from Autodrive to Sequential
mode and back at any time, irrespective of riding conditions.
The handlebar gearshift control can also be disabled from
the dashboard.
The 90° V engine configuration, chosen
for torque and power delivery, is the perfect match for
this type of transmission. The engine delivers 76 horsepower
at the crank and well in excess of 7 kgm of torque (at 5,000
rpm). Most important of all is an extremely flat power curve
that translates into plenty of ready power even at low revs.
The four valves per cylinder are operated by a single chain
driven overhead camshaft, a solution that combines ease
of maintenance with effective performance. As is traditional
for Aprilia’s big bike engines, lubrication is provided
by a dry sump system, with a separate oil reservoir integrated
inside the engine to minimise overall weight.

The Frame:
The robust steel tube trellis frame sets new standards
for this class of machine and ensures top level handling
in line with the characteristics of the innovative engine.
The single piece aluminium swingarm is damped by a monoshock
that is laterally offset to free up space for the exhaust
pipe behind the engine and make the motorcycle more compact.
The 850 Mana has a wheelbase of only 1,463 mm, extremely
short for a naked, even a sports model.
The Suspension:
The 43 mm upside down fork slides easily and features
an optimised setup for excellent performance even under
sport riding conditions. 120 mm of front wheel travel
lets you tackle all sorts of road surface. At the rear,
the monoshock is operated directly by the swingarm without
intermediary linkages, and offers adjustments for spring
preload and hydraulic rebound damping. Rear wheel travel
is 125 mm.
The Brakes:
Radial calipers with 4 pistons are the state of the art
for motorcycle brakes and ensure maximum active safety
under all braking conditions. The generous front discs
are 320 mm in diameter, the standard size for Aprilia’s
big bikes, and are complemented by a single 260 mm rear
disc.

The Aprilia Dorsoduro
750 Road Bike
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 has been developed
in close collaboration with Aprilia Racing (the department
of Aprilia responsible for thirty-seven world titles in
all, and five in 2007 alone, including four in Moto GP’s
125 and 250 cc classes and one in the Supermotard World
Championship). The result is a bike that combines the
best of supersport and supermoto racing technology. The
Aprilia Dorsoduro gives you absolute riding pleasure and
fun. A distillation of performance and technology, the
Dorsoduro is a special, extreme, and elite motorcycle,
capable of elevating its rider to motorcycling excellence.
The Engine:
The V twin engine that powers the Aprilia Dorsoduro incorporates
the latest, most advanced technology:
• 90° V twin layout
• Liquid cooling
• Tri-Map engine management and ride-by-wire throttle
control
• Very over-square bore to stroke ratio
• Four valves per cylinder
• Double overhead cam valve timing
• Electronic fuel injection with two throttle bodies
• Stick-coils integrated in the spark plug caps
• Three way catalytic converter and Lambda probe
• Hydraulically operated wet clutch
Three performance modes, Sport, Touring and Rain, can
be selected on the move from a switch on the handlebars.
The Dorsoduro changes its character radically, depending
on what mode you select. Sport mode gives you aggressive
instant power; Touring mode gives you a smoother action,
better suited to relaxed long distance riding; and Rain
mode gives you ultimate safety slippery surfaces.

The Frame:
The secret lies in an ultra-responsive chassis, whose
ergonomics suit riders of all statures and allow you to
“take it to the limit” and enjoy the thrills
of a motorcycle built for pure entertainment. The lateral
position and acute angle of the rear monoshock has freed
up the space needed to ensure optimum exhaust geometry
without any increase in the bike’s overall length,
and without subjecting the monoshock to thermal stress.
The aluminium swingarm is robust enough to withstand the
asymmetric stresses generated by the lateral positioning
of the rear suspension. The swingarm has been specially
developed to satisfy the needs of a supermotard like the
Dorsoduro 750, and combines excellent torsional rigidity
with the elasticity needed for precision under acceleration
and intuitive control under changing conditions.
The Suspension:
The 43 mm upside down fork features shell-cast bottom
outers with radial calipers mountings, and offers adjustments
for spring preload and rebound damping. This sophisticated
fork offers a superb sliding action and a wheel travel
of 160 mm in line with the latest trends in supermotard
racing. Both yokes are forged, and the top yoke is also
anodised to match the Dorsoduro’s high level of
finish.
The laterally offset monoshock pivots directly on the
swingarm in a cantilever configuration, and is also adjustable
in spring preload and rebound damping. Rear wheel travel
is 160 mm, again in keeping the requirements of a top
level supermotard, on which effective, controlled long
stroke suspension is a must.long stroke suspension is
a must.
The Brakes:
The front brakes feature 4-piston radial calipers, state-of-the-art
for the motard market. The lightweight, 320 mm wave discs
ensure shorter than ever stopping distances.
The rear brakes incorporate another wave disc, 240 mm
in diameter this time, plus a single piston caliper. Both
the front and rear brakes are fitted with aeronautical
type metal braided brake lines to eliminate the sponginess
associated with conventional rubber hoses and to deliver
maximum braking precision.

The Aprilia Shiver
750 Motorbike
The SL 750 Shiver is the new trend-setter
in the world of naked bikes.
An elegant combination of form and function, the SL 750
Shiver is unrivalled in style and technology. Its slender
proportions and aggressive lines envelop the latest motorcycle
technology in iconic style. Its sporty appearance excites
from the very first glance. The unmistakable SL 750 Shiver
turns its rider into a master of the road. The sculpted,
sporty tank, seat and tail unit emphasise the SL 750 Shiver’s
compact dimensions. The engine and frame blend perfectly
into the overall design, which leaves the bike’s
refined technology in full view. The under-seat exhaust
system follows the bike’s aggressive yet elegant
lines, ensuring that the SL 750 Shiver is totally unique
from all points of view.

The Engine:
Aprilia’s brand new V twin is Liquid cooling, with
four valves per cylinder and double overhead cam valve
gear. Exuberant under sports riding conditions, yet smooth
and responsive in daily commuting. Aprilia’s new
90° V twin develops a generous 95 HP at 9,000 rpm
with plenty of torque right through the rev range. Electronic
fuel injection and micro-spray injectors also mean that
the new engine is extremely environmentally conscious.
The SL 750 Shiver is the first production motorcycle in
this class to incorporate Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle
control.
The Frame:
Its innovative mixed frame combines a tubular trellis
upper section with robust cast side members in top quality
aluminium, assembled by high strength bolts. Exceptionally
light yet impressively strong, this innovative frame design
lets you make full use of the power delivered by the 90°
V twin engine while maintaining high precision control.
The lateral positioning of the monoshock not only enhances
the uniqueness of the bike’s styling but also saves
space and allows the exhaust to follow the ideal path,
optimising balance. The unit’s convenient location
also enables the rear suspension to be adjusted precisely
and easily. The exhaust header pipes from the cylinders
join before the single under-seat silencer, before splitting
again into two tail pipes. The high volume of the 10 litre
silencer ensures optimum engine efficiency.

The Aprilia SXV
450 & 550 Road Motorbike
A tremendous amount of care and attention has been lavished
on even the smallest details on the SXV. As a result the
SXV boasts a unique, unmistakable styling that is nevertheless
fully functional in achieving unrivalled performance,
because first and foremost even the standard SXV is a
genuine competition motorcycle.
The Engine:
The amazing 45.2 engine is, of course, the centre piece
of SXV technology. The 77° V angle is the result of
extensive testing, aimed not only at boosting power but
also at reducing vibration. As a result Aprilia’s
engineers have been able to eliminate engine balancer
shafts. Despite this the 45.2 engine still vibrates far
less than any single cylinder alternative.
A closer look at the unique characteristics of the 45.2
engine:
- Electronic fuel injection with 38 mm throttle bodies
(40 mm on the 550 engine).
- Dry sump lubrication with separate external reservoirs
for gearbox and engine oil to avoid contaminating engine
oil with particles of clutch friction lining, and for
extended lubricant life.
- Single overhead cam with four valve heads
- Single piece crankshaft
- Cylinders integrated in the crankcase with wet liners
- Maximum engine speed 12,500 rpm (450 motard)
The Chassis:
The perimeter frame is a tubular steel trellis structure
interference fitted to pressed aluminium side members
to form an extremely rigid whole. The engine itself forms
an integral part of the chassis, acting as a load bearing
element and contributing to overall rigidity.
The variable section aluminium alloy swingarm is a brilliant
example of industrial design. More than just an eye-catching
design solution, this revolutionary swingarm offers the
highest structural rigidity available in this class of
motorcycle. The rising rate suspension linkage is damped
by a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock with piggy back
cylinder and two different hydraulic settings for high
and low speeds. The calibration of the rear suspension
has been modified for 2008 to improve stability and control
over rough surfaces and a new linkage system has been
introduced to make the damping action of the monoshock
more progressive, increasing both traction and control.
The 48 mm upside down fork also boasts new settings for
greater high speed stability and improved damping in off-road
use.
The Brakes:
The SXV features FTE calipers and lightweight wave discs
(320 mm at the front) for maximum braking control even
under the most challenging conditions.
The 240 mm rear disc is braked by a single piston caliper
for a perfect combination of power and control

The
Aprilia RS 125 Road Motorbike
The RS 125 is the undisputed leader among
125 cc supersports and gives young riders the best the
market has to offer in terms of components and equipment,
with a concentration of technical refinements that are
not found on many superbikes. The mean, cutting edge look
of the new RS 125 tells you that this is a professional
racing machine. The styling of the RS is based on that
of the RSV 1000 R and, as with all Aprilia sports bikes,
is the result of painstaking aerodynamic research.
The Engine:
The powerful but reliable, single cylinder, two stroke,
Rotax-Aprilia engine needs no introduction. The motorcycle
engine boasts technical solutions that are state-of-the-art
for two strokes, including a crankcase reed valve intake,
liquid cooling, an anti-vibration balancer shaft, and
an automatic mixing system. The RS 125’s engine
has been constantly updated over the years to keep in
line with the latest emission control legislation without
penalising performance. A catalytic converter and precision
carburation has won Aprilia’s single cylinder two
stroke homologation to Euro 3 standards. And the amazing
thing is that this has been achieved without losing out
on performance: the Aprilia RS 125 engine remains the
reference point for all 125 cc powerplants.

The Chassis:
The RS 125 frame is made from cast aluminium alloy with
cross-ribbing reinforcement. Despite its extremely light
weight, this advanced structure achieves amazing torsional
rigidity, setting the standards for Aprilia’s competitors.
The box section, aluminium alloy swingarm has the highest
torsional rigidity of all production 125 cc swingarms.
Differential side members enable the exhaust to follow
a path that maximises engine performance and enables more
acute angles of lean to be achieved on bends without risking
dangerous contact with the asphalt.
The Suspension:
This too plays a fundamental role in ensuring not only
the RS 125’s performance, but its safety and comfort
too, relying on an upside-down fork that has been optimised
for maximum performance on the racetrack while also delivering
a more satisfying ride on public roads. The rear suspension
features rising rate linkages based on Aprilia’s
125 GP racing technology, for excellent traction and superb
comfort even over uneven road surfaces. The hydraulic
monoshock that provides the damping for the swingarm is
also adjustable in spring preload.
The Brakes:
Designed for maximum efficiency under competitive riding
conditions. The front brake is a genuine state-of-the-art,
high performance system with a radial caliper and four
opposed pistons. In addition to the 320 mm front disc,
the system also incorporates a radial master cylinder
and aeronautical hoses for maximum precision and unrivalled
braking power. The rear disc is 220 mm in diameter and
is also equipped with metal braided hoses for perfectly
balanced, high performance braking.

The Aprilia SX
125 Road Motorbike
In the same way in which the RXV and
SXV have become style icons in their own right, the SX
and RX are also destined to leave their mark on young
off-road riders. As with any self-respecting off-road
machine, the design of these bikes is dedicated to total
functionality, and efficient control. Their styling leaves
no room for frills and gadgets. With their unmistakable
lines, the SX and RX are simply unique among off-roaders.

The Engine:
With the SX 125, Aprilia has succeeded in perfecting its
two stroke design to bring it in line with the strict
new Euro 3 standard without any loss of performance or
riding satisfaction. This sparkling single cylinder engine
easily develops the maximum permitted power for its class,
with all the lightness and zippy acceleration typical
of a high performance two stroke.
This engine has already established a place for itself
in the hearts of 125 fans, thanks to its many advanced
characteristics, including liquid cooling, and a balancer
shaft. The cylinder has a nickel silicon carbide (Nikasil)
liner for an ultra-reliable, extended life. Lubrication
is provided by a separate mixer system.
Brakes
& Suspension: Active safety on the
Aprilia SX is ensured by advanced suspension and a braking
system that sets new standards for stopping power and
progressive action. The front brakes feature a 260 mm
disc and two-piston floating caliper while the back brake
incorporates a 220 mm disc and another floating piston.
The robust, steel, double cradle, trellis frame is coupled
to an over-sized suspension system. At the front is a
mighty, 40 mm upside down telescopic fork offering wheel
travel of 260 mm. At the back, the long steel swingarm
used to obtain maximum traction is damped by a prestigious
hydraulic monoshock with piggy back cylinder. Rear wheel
travel is 270 mm.
The Wheels:
The SX boasts lightweight 17 inch, wide profile wheels
and generous sports tyres, 110/70-17” and 150/60-17”
for maximum grip under all conditions.
